About the Place
Welcome to Netong's Original Special La Paz Batchoy, a cherished culinary gem nestled within the bustling La Paz Public Market in Iloilo City, Philippines. Recognized as one of the premier places to enjoy this iconic Filipino dish, Netong's not only serves La Paz Batchoy but encapsulates a rich tradition that dates back to the roots of Ilonggo culture.
As you step into this unpretentious eatery, the warm and inviting atmosphere greets you, albeit with a touch of humidity typical of market life. Here, you will find loyal patrons and inquisitive visitors alike, all drawn by the savory aroma wafting through the air. The small dining space bustles with energy, and the electric fans do their part in alleviating the heat as diners relish each bowl of this comforting noodle soup.
The batchoy here is nothing short of a revelation. Those who have tasted this delicacy rave about its robust broth, perfectly balanced with a characteristic saltiness that ignites the palate. The thin noodles absorb the flavor beautifully, making every spoonful an addictive experience, especially on those rainy, nostalgic days. As one customer noted, it's "a bit addictive to sip on," and I wholeheartedly agree. The rich, meaty flavors, crafted from a blend of pork, chicharrón, and other delectable ingredients, create a harmony that sings to the soul.
Complementing the batchoy, Netong's offers delightful extras like their rice puto and dinuguan, further enriching the dining experience. The puto, soft and subtly sweet, pairs impeccably with the savory broth, while the dinuguan delivers a taste of authentic Filipino comfort food that leaves a lasting impression. Many guests express their happiness with the ability to customize their batchoy, ensuring that even picky eaters can savor this local treasure without compromise.
However, it’s worth noting that some customers have mentioned a few challenges, such as limited ventilation and occasional lapses in service. Despite this, the heartfelt recommendations from both locals and visitors make it clear that the food's quality outweighs any minor inconveniences.
In conclusion, a visit to Netong's Original Special La Paz Batchoy is not merely about feeding one's hunger; it is about partaking in a culinary legacy that holds the hearts of many. Whether you are in search of the perfect meal or hoping to taste the authentic flavors of Iloilo, your journey will undoubtedly be enhanced with a steaming bowl of batchoy from this revered establishment.
“ Netong's is the first La Paz Batchoy I've tried after arriving in Iloilo. It's quite tricky to find at first but you can ask the locals where to find it. It's found inside La Paz Market, down the dry market section. The place is quite small and can get a bit hot and humid, but several electric fans make up for the heat. You can order their Batchoy with sides ( I personally loved their rice puto)! The broth has a lot of umami in it, I loved it so much. ”
“ The food is delicious, and they offer extras like rice and puto that go really well with the soup. The soup itself is flavorful slightly strong, but still very tasty. It's actually a bit addictive to sip on. The noodles are thin, and I think that’s where the bold, salty flavor mainly comes from. You’ll especially enjoy this dish on a rainy day when you’re feeling sentimental feels like the perfect time to have it. But honestly, it’s still great even on a sunny day. Location: It’s a bit tricky to find at first, but we managed to get there with the help of some locals. Just don’t be shy to ask around they’ll gladly point you in the right direction. The store is air-conditioned too, so it’s quite comfortable inside. ”
“ Netong’s is usually the batchoy place recommended by tourists and I don’t question why. I’m happy that they accept customized batchoy (as a picky eater who doesnt like garlic and pork innards). The price is okay also, and the broth is kind of salty?? (this would work for northern luzon tourists like me lmao) Only concern is the ventilation. May aircon but it doesn’t really reach the back part where we sat. There were fans but they were closed. Good experience overall for a first timer ”
“ the batchoys broth is very savory, love the batchoy.. also tried their dinuguan.. and wow its very dinuguan, original taste.. authentic flavor. ”
“ Original La Paz Batchoy at the La Paz Public Market! When in Iloilo, you must eat batchoy, of course at the place where it started. One of the most popular batchoy places is Netong's. Located just near the entrance of the La Paz Public Market, the diner is relatively small and there aren't a lot of tables. Luckily, there were available seats when we came so we immediately sat and the staff gave us the menu. The menu is simple and staight forward. You can choose the size of your batchoy, the noodles, and the meat you want in your dish. We ordered the Extra Batchoy with its classic meat and noodles. It was my first time trying batchoy and I enjoyed it! I understand why it's popular. It was hearty, filling and comforting! I recommend also ordering the puto! I honestly wish I ordered more to take home. I definitely recommend this experience! ”
